The use of personal vehicles is on rise currently leading to various problems as pollution, traffic congestion on roads, loss of fuel, but one of the better solutions to this is the use of public transport. So, as a transport engineer one must provide a public transport system which works more efficiently than private transport. In this view point, an event is organized in which one has to plan a better public transport system.
A Maximum 2 participants per team
Maximum time 60 minutes for planning of routes.
B. Data provided to participants
1 A grid printed on a sheet where one block represents one kilometer.
Coordinates of origin point and destination point
Three modes of transport are available
1.) Private/Personal Vehicle
2.) Bus transport
3.) Metro rail transport
Coordinates of fix stops.
Cost and time for each mode of transport per kilometer.
C Expected stationary from participants
1 Different coloured pen/sketch pen/crayons/pencil for different modes of transport. Water colours are not desirable.
2 Scale and eraser.
D Task to perform
1 One has to plan three routes for different modes (one for private vehicle, one for bus and one for metro rail) of
transport between origin and destination.
All the routes should start from origin and end at destination.
All the planned routes must pass through Central Business District (CBD/Market).
Private vehicle route must also pass through fuel station.
Bus route must also pass through bus stops.
Metro rail route must also pass through metro stations.
Routes must not be aligned diagonally.
It is required that routes of any mode should not overlap.
Crossing of routes is permitted.
E Judging criteria
The competitors will be judged on the basis of travel cost ratio and travel time ratio*.

TRAVEL TIME RATIO
1) Travel time ratio= Travel time for Bus/ Travel time for Private or personal vehicle = a
2) Travel time ratio= Travel time for Metro rail/ Travel time for Private or personal vehicle = b
TRAVEL COST RATIO
1) Travel cost ratio= Travel cost for Bus/ Travel cost for Private or personal vehicle = c
2) Travel cost ratio= Travel cost for Metro rail/ Travel cost for Private or personal vehicle = d
Winning criteria = minimum of a + b + c + d
